Hosting a Tournament
Tourney Bot makes it simple to host a tournament. This guide will walk you through the steps to host a tournament.
This tutorial assumes you've completed all steps from the Getting Started guide and have created a tournament with at least 2 participants.
Check-in Process
This is an optional, yet important, process that you can utilize to help remove no-shows from your tournament. Learn more about the check-in process here.
Starting your Tournament
It is almost game-time! Head to the #admin
channel of your tournament and press the ▶️ button on the Configuration embed. This will ask you to confirm that you want to start your tournament.
Once you confirm, the tournament will officially begin and match threads will start appearing within the #chat
channel of your tournament. Also, a #bracket
channel will appear, if you have bracket generation enabled then you will see your bracket there, otherwise you will see a message with a link to your bracket on our tournaments website.
Discord Bracket Generation is only available for server with Premium and can be toggled on or off with the /toggle bracket
command.
You can also start a tournament via the /start
command by using it in your tournament's #admin
channel.
If you are unable to find your tournament's Config embed in the #admin
channel, you can use the /config
command to have the embed sent again in that channel.
Match Threads
Once you start your tournament, match threads will start appearing within the #chat
channel of your tournament. These match threads are where participants will play their matches and will be used to report match scores.
Within each match thread, you will see the following:
- Mentioning the participants of the match and the Tournament Admin role
- A message telling the participants to start their match and how to report their scores
- The 'Best of' format of the match
- The 'Rules' of the tournament
- The 'Info' of the tournament
- A blue 'Score' button
- A red 'Forfeit' button
- A grey 'View Bracket' button
This match thread is essential for keeping the tournament chat tidy as participants share info to each other about how to start their match and so on.
Bracket
If you have bracket generation enabled, you will see your bracket within the #bracket
channel of your tournament. If you do not have bracket generation enabled, you will see a message with a link to your bracket on our tournaments website.
As the tournament progresses and matches are scored, the bracket will automatically update to reflect the results of the matches.
Discord Bracket Generation is only available for server with Premium and can be toggled on or off with the /toggle bracket
command.
Hosting your Tournament
Reporting Scores
Once a match is complete, participants will need to report their scores. To do so, they will need to press the blue 'Score' button within the match thread. This will open a prompt asking them to confirm their score. Once they confirm, the score will be reported and the match thread will be updated with the score.
Reporting scores can be done by either participant in the match or by a Tournament Admin. And can be done via the blue 'Score' button or via the /score
command.
When a match is reported, the following will happen:
- The match thread will be deleted
- The match will be updated on the bracket
- The match results will be posted in the
#results
channel of your tournament
Forfeiting Matches
If either participant is unable to play their match, they can forfeit their match by pressing the red 'Forfeit' button within the match thread. This will open a prompt asking them to confirm their forfeit. Once they confirm, the match will be forfeited and the user will be removed from the tournament.
Match Disputes
If a participant believes that their match was scored incorrectly, either user can start dispute the match by pressing the red 'Dispute' button on their match results message within the #results
channel. This will immediately send a message in the #admin
channel saying a dispute has started, and a channel named #dispute-<match_id>
will be created. This channel will be used to discuss the dispute between match participants and Tournament Admins. This channel will be deleted once the dispute is resolved and is closed by a Tournament Admin.
If the match is needed to be played again, you can reopen it by using the /reopen
command in the #admin
channel of your tournament. This will reopen the match thread and will allow the participants to play their match again.

channel of your tournament stating that they have all been finished and that you can end your tournament. To end your tournament, you can use the End
button on this message, or you can use the /end
